Reviewing 2021

It’s been a really long time since I’ve updated this blog. So, welcome to a new look and a lot of planned content for 2022.

In 2021, I:

  • Came out of strict isolation from COVID after vaccination
  • left my job of 4 years at MinistryBrands to join Hitachi Solutions as a Senior Developer
  • started submitting to conferences again for 2022 (and assuming it happens, I’m in at CodeStock for 2022)
  • Accepted that I’m actually disabled, had hip arthroscopy, and bought an electric wheelchair
  • Figured out that budgeting for travel/vacation helps me be guilt free
  • Had a child reach the age of being a really fun competitor in games (Stardew Valley, Ticket to Ride, Catan, and Carcassone were a major part of the year)
  • Learned some major life lessons
  • Spoiled myself with life upgrades (new HVAC, new bed, new duvet, new and many other things)
  • Went on an amazing vacation to Jamestown, Yorktown, and Williamsburg
  • Helped my parents move 525 miles to a house that is only 8 houses from mine

In 2022, I hope to:

  • finish the renovation project we started 6 years ago, so I can actually arrange my house the way I want to
  • pick up a lot of new certifications (who doesn’t like someone else validating they are knowledgable?)
  • prioritize my work/life balance to spend more quality time with family/friends
  • read three books for personal development, per month
  • start knocking things off my bucket list
  • write more
  • start going to conferences again
  • (and several personal goals that don’t need to be shared)
